Pearl Jam Threaten Tribute Band With Lawsuit

Pearl Jam and their lawyers have sent legal threats to the tribute band Pearl Jamm, leading the band to change their name to Legal Jam.

Legal Jam issued the following statement in response, “A name doesn’t define us. We do what we do out of love and respect for Pearl Jam.

We have always been clear that we will ‘Yield’ to Pearl Jam’s demands and equally clear that our disappointment was only ever of the timing and manner in which those demands were made.

We are proud to announce our new name: ‘Legal Jam’ which we thought would be fitting and under which we will continue to perform the music of Pearl Jam in the most heartfelt and authentic way.

We look forward to reconnecting with our own fans (and other tributes) who have been so supportive through this as well welcoming the new fans who have joined us over the last week, as soon as we are back on the road.”

Pearl Jam have not played live since September 2018, so in the near three years since their live hiatus, cover bands have been the only way to see Pearl Jam’s music performed live, outside of Eddie Vedder’s solo tours, and more recently his virtual concert performances.

Do you think Pearl Jam were justified in their legal threats? Let us know in the comments section.

  1. The name is too similar. They should just change it. This moment of notoriety gives them the perfect moment in which to do it and get that new name to a ton of people. They should just change the name, capitalize on this moment, and come out of this as the most (only?) nationally known Pearl Jam tribute band.

I’ve seen a lot of comments across the internet bashing either Pearl Jam for being greedy assholes or Pearl Jamm for being a tribute band to begin with. All of that is nonsense. There is no villain here. They should just change the name and move on.
