Metallica Icon Calls Out ‘Sloppy’ Dave Mustaine Performance

On Twitter recently former Metallica bassist Ron McGovney answered a superfan who wondered about the main riff from Metallica’s first original song from all the way back in  1982 – ‘Hit the Lights’. Metallica ‘lose’ singer after James Hetfield drama.

Alasek619 stated on Twitter: “Dave [Mustaine]’s solos are kind of sloppy on No Life Til Leather unless Kirk [Hammett] improved those solos but I heard those kinds of solos when KIrk was on exodus. Who wrote the main riff of ‘Hit the Lights’.

To which the one-time Metallica bassist gave quite the shocking answer by replying: “band secret. Can’t tell ya.”

In other Metallica related headlines, the band’s body of work received some major praise recently as Guns N’ Roses bassist Slash proclaimed Metallica’s ‘Garage Days’ to be one of the best cover albums ever recovered. This significant praise came during an interview on Jonsey’s Jukebox and while talking about Guns N’ Roses’ classic album ‘The Spaghetti Incident?’, coincidentally another covers album. “Yeah, it was a hell of a lot of fun. I mean, it was very spontaneous and it was recorded in different studios around. I mean, some stuff was in the States, I think we recorded some stuff in – I want to say Canada, don’t quote me on that, but I know that there were different studios, different locations while we were on the road, so we would just pop in. Just being able to do an interpretation of a song that you really like… Some cover records are better than others. But the ones where the artist really relates to the original material and it becomes part of their personality when they re-record it, I think that’s really cool.”

  1. To be fair, yes the demos sounded a bit sloppy, HOWEVER, Dave was after unreal, inhuman SPEED! If you play guitar, you would know this and be quiet and bang your head in tribute to The Metal Gods…
